Since 2020, the US government required all international travelers to acquire appropriate vaccinations to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 virus public health emergency. After two years, reports show that COVID-related deaths and hospitalizations have been at their lowest globally. The federal government also achieved 98% compliance with the vaccination of its workforce.
COVID Vaccine No Longer Required
By May 11, 2023, the US government will no longer require COVID-19 vaccine requirements for the following:
- Federal employees
- Federal contractors
- International air travelers
On the same day, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will also start not requiring COVID-19 vaccine requirements for the following:
- Head Start educators
- CMS-certified healthcare facilities
- Certain noncitizens at the land border
Other Vaccination Requirements
The lifting of COVID-19 vaccine requirements covers international air travelers but it does not necessarily include immigrants. In addition to COVID-19 vaccination, the USCIS requires immigrants to comply with the following:
- Mumps
- Measles
- Rubella
- Polio
- Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids
- Pertussis
- Haemophilus influenzae type B
- Hepatitis B
Any other vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP)
