The House Democrats plan to introduce immigration reforms to the Senate before turning over their majority in the lower chamber next year. Specifically, they are pushing for a bill protecting the beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program or “Dreamers.” Although Democrats proposed several initiatives for the upcoming Congressional session, the DACA program takes the highest priority.
Upcoming: Dream and Promise Act
Rep. Raul Ruiz, head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, said that the efforts for the DACA program will form part of the bill passed last year entitled the “Dream and Promise Act”. If passed, qualified “dreamers” will acquire conditional permanent resident status for ten (10) years.
