EOIR Opens New Immigration Court in Santa Ana, CA with 22 Judges

The government had to adopt drastic measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the necessary steps was closing some government offices. This move was a crucial countermeasure to prevent the spread of the virus, but it halted the regular operations of American society. Everyone was affected, and the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) was no exception.

Functions of EOIR

The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) is a sub-agency under the United States Department of Justice. Its primary function is to administer removal proceedings in immigration courts and adjudicate appeals arising from the proceedings. These administrative proceedings determine whether or not a person under trial is removable from and admissible in the United States. As of November 2021, EOIR has more than seventy courts located all over America. A new court in Santa Ana, CA, opened recently.

Opening of a New Immigration Court

As early as November 22, 2021, the EOIR announced opening an immigration court in 1241 E. Dyer Road, Suite 200, Santa Ana, CA 92705. The new court formally opened on November 30, 2021. Upon opening, the court initially starts with three immigration judges whose cases transferred from the dockets of the Los Angeles – Olive Street Immigration Court branch. When the Santa Ana court becomes fully functional, it should have up to twenty-two (22) immigration judges.

Change of Hearing Location

With the opening of the Santa Ana court, EOIR sent official notices to affected parties about the change of their hearing location. EOIR adamantly monitors its nationwide caseload to fulfill the needs of the public and avoid any form of disruption or inconvenience.

To contact the Santa Ana court, you may call 714-481-4900. They are open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
