The US Department of State (DOS) issued that consular officers may now student visas up to a year or 365 days in advance of an international student’s program start date. This issuance gives students more time to prepare living in US and other needs.
What is a Student Visa?
A student visa is a government-issued document allowing non-citizens to study within US. Students may begin formal education from kindergarten at the age of five or six. From then, they may proceed to elementary, high school, college, and post graduate education. Besides basic education, students may enroll in other programs for other purposes, like employment and language training.
F and M Student Visa
The two major classifications of student visas are as follows:
F Student Visa
- University or college
- High School
- Private elementary school
- Seminary
- Conservatory
- Another academic institution, including a language training program
- Vocational or other recognized nonacademic institution, except language training program
Entry to the United States
Having an approved F or M visa does not automatically allow students to enter United States at any time. New students may only enter the country 30 days prior to their program’s start date. On the other hand, continuing students may enter US at anytime as long as they are validly enrolled in a SEVP-approved school or institution.
