Applicants should be keen with every immigration procedure. Failing to abide by them could cause complications that may derail or cancel your application. Also, visa categories may implement specific instructions and requirements. The diversity visa program is no exception. It is advisable to keep track of statutory changes and learn their legal implications.
What is a diversity visa?
Through the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV Program), the US government picks up to 50,000 random applicants per year. The selection comes from all countries with low immigration rates to America. Successful visa holders may become lawful permanent residents. After a few years and fulfilling specific conditions, they may also apply for US citizenship.
Suspension of Document Submission to KCC
Starting fiscal year 2024, the US Department of State (DOS) will suspend the Kentucky Consular Center’s (KCC) acceptance of immigration documents from DV program selectees except for their DS-260 immigrant visa applications. After KCC receives the application, it will determine whether the selectees are eligible to be scheduled for visa interviews. Upon approval, the eligible selectees will submit the rest of the supporting documents to the embassy or consulate where the selectee applied.
Note: Failure to submit the required documents to the designated receiving center may result in the refusal of one’s visa application.
