Like other visa categories, immigration laws set a limited number of H-1B visas that the USCIS could issue per fiscal year. Currently, the mandated cap is 65,000. Additionally, 20,000 more slots are available for foreign students graduating with post-graduate degrees from US colleges and universities.
Second Random Selection for H1-B Visa FY 2024
USCIS first conducted a random selection in March 2023 for the FY 2024 H-1B visa application online registrants. Only those registered from April 1 to June 30, 2023, qualify for the selection. After the first selection, USCIS decided that it will conduct a second round of selection to fill in the available slots.
Important Statuses for Online Registrants
If you registered for FY 2024 H-1B visa online, take note of the following statuses:
- SUBMITTED
- Your registration has been duly submitted
- You are eligible for selection
- SELECTED:
- You may now file an H-1B visa
- DENIED:
- The most common reason for denial is duplicate registration
- INVALIDATED-FAILED PAYMENT:
- Your registration has been submitted, but there is an issue with the payment method
