USICS Announces Changes on the Naturalization Test

On December 15, 2022, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) made a publication in the Federal Register announcing that the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) plans to conduct a trial for updates to the current naturalization test. This trial will be in collaboration with community-based organizations that serve English-language learners and lawful permanent residents preparing for naturalization.

Trial Contents

The trial will update the content and format of both the standardized English-speaking test and civics test. An initial virtual engagement introducing the trial testing will happen on January 12, 2023.

Participation Voluntary, No Effects on Application

Take note that anyone’s participation in the trial will be completely voluntary. The government is not obliging anyone to take part in the test. More so, if you decided to participate in the trial, any naturalization application that you may be submitted with the USCIS during the trial testing period is unaffected.
