The Senate is taking more proactive actions toward giving “dreamers” more rights and privileges, specifically, the ability to become US Citizens. This initiative has been the cry of immigrants for decades. Now, two senators, a Republican and Democrat, are working on a draft to update immigration systems and provide solutions to old age problems.
Republican and Democrat Collaboration
Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona continuously discuss how they could make the DACA program more progressive. Most of the updates involve the determination of program eligibility and adjustments to border security. Democrats are pining for a compromise to win the Republicans’ vote to grant citizenship to “dreamers.”
An Ongoing Draft
The bipartisan framework is still a draft at this point. Neither the White House nor Senate leadership have been involved in discussions. However, it is notable that the current administration consistently campaigned for the protection of “dreamers” and their pathway to citizenship.”
