DHS Releases Notice of Designation for Ukraine and Sudan TPS

On April 18, 2022, the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released two Federal Register notices on Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukraine and Sudan. These designations have an 18-month validity, per Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas.

Individuals interested in the TPS should file a request for this purpose. The application process started on April 19, 2022.

Eligibility for Ukraine Designation

Ukrainians interested in applying for TPS must exhibit the following:

  • continual residency in the United States since April 11, 2022.
  • continual physical presence in the United States starting from the designation date stated in the Federal Register notice.

Eligibility for Sudan Designation

The requirements for eligible Sudanese applicants are as follows:

  • continuous residence in the United States since March 1, 2022.
  • continuous physical presence in the United States since the designation date in the Federal Register notice.
